Tour Description

This tour offers you the rare chance to see Lake Eyre in all of its natural beauty. There is precious little time in which you are able to see Lake Eyre as flood waters poor in from the channel country. Take this short lived opportunity as the area’s unique ecosystem comes alive. By taking a scenic flight at low altitude over the lake and its surrounding areas you are able to see everything that this diverse ecosystem has to offer. This tour is full of memorable sights and lasting images of Lake Eyre. Another highlight is a stop at Coober Pedy for a tour of the town and mine. The scenery is awe-inspiring from the air, from the rich Adelaide Plains, over the ancient Flinders Ranges and up to the raw expanses of the Outback.

1 Day Scenic Flights
Depart from the General Aviation Terminal, Adelaide Airport and fly north to Coober Pedy. The town is known as the ‘opal capital of the world’ because of the quantity of precious opals that are mined there. You will be transferred from the airport to Coober Pedy and have the opportunity to purchase opals during a short tour. The next stop is the iconic William Creek Hotel for lunch. William Creek is the smallest settlement in South Australia and situated on the Oonadatta Track. After lunch it’s time for your scenic flight over Lake Eyre, which has only filled to the brim three times in the last 160 years. Normally inhospitable to wildlife, when flowing with water Lake Eyre is transformed into Australia's largest lake, a wildlife oasis brimming with flora and fauna. Its incredible colours and patterns become accentuated from the air, especially when full of water. When the lake is 80% full of water, there are up to 85 different varieties of birds on the lake. You will fly at low altitude to the Warburton Groove, at the northern end of the lake. Your return journey flies over the Northern Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound and the Southern Flinders Ranges. From your vantage point you will clearly see how the Flinders Ranges appear to be a ‘backbone on the landscape’. Returning to the Adelaide Airport at approximately 5.30pm.
