Tour Description

A totally personalised tour for that romantic getaway in the privacy of your own luxury Limousine, suits up to 4-5 guests The Tour stars from your hotel at 9.30am, for a leisurely day of tasting wine at the Fleurieu Peninsula ~ where the vines meet the sea! The only decision you will have to make is which direction you want to travel. As we amble our way through the City, your guide will give you a brief description of the history of Adelaide and point out some of the highlights that we may encounter on our journey to the McLaren Vale. The first option is via the Adelaide Hills, taking in the delights that Mt Lofty, Bridgewater Mill and the village of Hahndorf have to offer. The second option is to follow the coast to Willunga lookout, where you can view the spectacular scenery where the hills meet the sea while overlooking the Fleurieu Peninsula. Our first tasting will be at a small cottage built in the 1800’s now occupied by Fox Creek. We will then venture on to Hough Hamilton, Wirra Wirra, and Tapestry. Lunch will be at d’Arrys Veranda Restaurant or Woodstock when available (a main meal of your choice is accompanied with a glass of wine) we then journey onto Coriole, Kay Brothers and Chapel Hill, finishing up at Samuels George, or you can choose your own destinations and wineries. It will be hard to depart from this location for the scenery is breathtaking and the wines are exceptional! It’s your day, enjoy.

McLaren Vale is arguably one of the premier Shiraz growing regions in the world. John McLaren was neither winemaker nor gastronomic genius, but he left an indelible mark on one of the foremost food and wine regions of Australia. Working under orders from his boss Colonel William Light, Government Surveyor, McLaren was responsible for mapping the regions south of Adelaide to the Fleurieu Peninsula. Under his guidance, the McLaren Vale District (just 40 minutes south of Adelaide) was born in 1839. The first vines however were planted a year earlier by John Reynell, a Devonshire farmer who brought vine cuttings from the Cape of Good Hope and planted them at what is now Reynella. McLaren Vale has two passions ~ food and wine, So indulge yourself in a Cheese & Wine Tasting Trail or indulge in a gourmet cuisine with a glass of fine wine, whilst overlooking one of the picturesque vineyards of the region. The Vale is famous for producing some the best wines in the world! With over 76 cellar doors, most of them are shop fronts for small to medium-size boutique operations with some including such major Australian players as the BRL Hardy group and Rosemount. Shiraz is a specialty, as are Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, while Merlot is becoming increasingly popular as a varietal. Chardonnay dominates the white varieties but Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are also gaining kudos, experimentation is taking place with Viognier, Marsanne and Sangiovese. "It is a tiny piece of paradise between the voluptuous hills of wine and the aquamarine sea."

Whatever the experience ... be prepared for the time of your life!
