Tour Description
A natural habitat wildlife experience, the Tropical Wildlife Trail winds through one of Australia's wildlife wonders - the Atherton Tablelands, located in the Cairns hinterland. Our journey takes us to:
- Crater Lakes National Park to see cassowary and a variety of other birds, as well as primitive musky rat-kangaroos, giant 1000 year-old trees, and a volcanic crater-lake;
- A Private Wildlife Reserve on the wild North Johnstone River to look for platypus, tree-kangaroos, birds, possums and turtles;
- Curtain Fig National Park to see the ancient and gothic-looking Curtain Fig-tree;
- Granite Gorge to experience the amazing landscape and see rock-wallabies and birds;
- Mareeba Wetlands to see numerous birds including emu and water-birds, as well as the chance to see crocodiles, and to take in the beautiful outback scenery;
- Kuranda National Park to see the iconic giant of the rainforest, the cassowary as well as other birds, rainforest wallabies and musky rat-kangaroos.
Typical wildlife seen on the Tropical Wildlife Trail may include platypus, kangaroos and wallabies - such as tree-kangaroos and rock-wallabies, and reptiles including the frilled lizard, turtles and the occasional freshwater crocodile - as well as an enormous variety of birds including the cassowary, emu, birds of prey and water birds.
