Tour Description
Mt. Field National Park, Russell Falls, Mt. Wellington & Tassie Devils
A Nature Lover’s Paradise! Mountain, Forests, Wildlife – a very Tasmanian Experience!
We head North-West from Hobart through the Derwent Valley an area rich in agriculture particular Hops with Oust Houses from the 1800’s still dotting the countryside we drive through.
Mt. Field National Park is our central theme for today’s tour. Once in the National Park we head 16km uphill into the beautiful alpine region of Tasmania. The Pandani Grove or Lake Dobson Alpine Walk is a refreshing, beautiful and abundant easy walk through the Gondwanan Landscape to get your legs moving today.
As we head back down into the forests of the park we begin the Tall Trees Walk – look skywards at the towering Swamp Gums – the world’s tallest hardwood trees. This easy and meandering walk takes you into the lush rainforests around Russell Falls. This is Tasmania’s most scenic waterfall. A three tiered drop in a beautiful setting. As with all of our tours, there are numerous short walks to enjoy in the National Park and your guide will give you the best experience suited to your group and the day.
After a lunch break amongst the beautiful scenery of Mt. Field we continue to our next destination - Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. At this Sanctuary we enjoy a fun tour learning about and observing some of our favourite local wildlife including our famous Devils.
We continue on and drive (not walk!) to the summit of Mt. Wellington. Mt. Wellington forms a stunning backdrop for Hobart City. At 1271m the views from the top are amazing (although a little chilly – bring a jacket). The panorama takes in Hobart and Southern Tasmania, see the magnificent World Heritage Area stretched out before you. We return to drop you back to your accommodation in Hobart around 5.00pm.
